Equator Institute is an independent academia that explores the visual arts through a lens that will often focus on history and culture. Using practical skills and knowledge that are typically overlooked or not taught in schools, means that the formation of ideas, objects, and spaces will often adhere to a code of ethics, unsanctioned by any administration.

Equator Books is our in-house publishing company, primarily dedicated to photography titles. It focuses on art, places, architecture, and industries with cultural significance — from a historic landmark building in Los Angeles to following the footsteps of explorers in Polynesian islands, the history of cannabis in Switzerland, or the tradition of mezcal-making in Mexico.

While our books appeal to the senses of sight and touch, our regard extends to realms of scent and hearing. This way, we endeavour to create meaningful objects and spaces that will last through the ages, not only by their materiality but also through their cultural and historical context.
