Equator Institute is an independent academia that explores visual arts through a lens focused on history, culture, and what is typically overlooked or not taught in schools.
The formation of our ideas, books, objects, and spaces reflects that and adheres to a code of ethics unsanctioned by any administration.
Archives — an ongoing anthropological study of world cultures, arts, and human activity; an archive of the world and its fading traces, for a better understanding of the present and tomorrow.
Equator Books — our in-house publishing exploring these themes primarily through photography titles. It focuses on art, geography, architecture, and industries with cultural and societal significance: from a historic landmark building in Los Angeles to the footsteps of explorers in the Polynesian islands, the history of cannabis in Switzerland, or the tradition of mezcal-making in Mexico. Our books are crafted mindfully, to last through the ages — not only in their materiality but also through their cultural and historical context.
